Muerte Dulce

September 1st, 2008  |  Published in T-Shirts

One of my favorite things about living in a city with such a large hispanic population — other than the ladies, of course — is Dia de los Muertos. Sure, it’s not a drinking holiday like Cinco de Mayo is, but it is still jam packed full of interesting cultural iconography.

Take sugar skulls for example. Lovingly hand painted, their intricate designs show a flair that runs like an undercurrent throughout the latino culture.

Wait a minute. That description was starting to put me to sleep — and I’m the one writing it. When did I become PBS?

Let me break it down for you like this… Much like carne asada, dollar margarita night, piƱatas, mariachis, churros and cheap beer, calaveras are the shit. They’re almost never in short supply around LA, but I haven’t found myself getting tired of them. This tee from Miles To Go is a solid example of the detail a calavera can have — and its $9.99 sale price matches the cost.

Seriously, this is a steal — so get one while you can.
