I Can't Draw

I Can't DrawI don't care if Roberto Gálvez can draw or not — although looking at his portfolio makes it seem like he can — I am still quite fond of his latest offering from Threadless.

How much do I like it? Well, I have a bunch of posts all written up and ready to go for the next week and I've pushed them back to feature this tee instead. I've even lifted my personal embargo on hyping the shit out of Threadless to talk about this shirt. It's not that I hate Threadless or anything — it's just that I assume that most of y'all are hip to what they're up to by now.

With that being said, some of you might not know that Threadless is doing a sweetheart sale until February 5th. What does that mean, exactly? Apparently if you buy two of the same shirt, they'll give you both of them for $10 a piece. That's great for all you kids who want to be all matchy matchy and cute with your significant others and all, but I've never gone for that sort of thing. Call me a curmudgeon if you'd like, but it's not really my cup of tea...

Draw The Line

Draw The LineRob from Fullbleed sent me a whole batch of great shirts from season 4 when I was taking my little "break" a few months back — so I feel like I owe him a post and nod at the very least. I feel bad tho, because most of this season is sold out. Better late than never, I guess.

I'm not trying to say that if you run a t-shirt company and you send along a bunch of shirts, I'll totally end up writing about you. While I might be a whore, I can assure you that I'm not that much of one. Hell, I've gotten quite a few free shirts that I really don't have any interest in whatsoever. Those either end up going to the Goodwill or getting used to dust furniture.

On the other hand, I've also gotten a few that I feel bad for not getting to yet. So if you've sent me something and you feel like I've snubbed you, drop me a line and give me a nudge. You'll need to be prepared for the chance that I didn't like your shirt(s) tho. And if you actually mail me about it this time around, I might end up telling you that I didn't care for what you sent. But at least you'll have closure, right?

Killowatt

KillowattI don't think lightning bolts actually look like this when they're sliced into. In fact, I don't even think you can slice into lightning bolts at all unless you practice some form of dark magic. I'm willing to look past that tho and run this shirt despite its obvious shortcomings. I've never been known for caring too much about technical details anyhow...

The indie kids are still into gear with lightning bolts on it, right? Or has that shit been played out for a while now? I don't really know anymore because I unsubscribed from Pitchfork's RSS feed almost a week ago. It was a sad day — mostly because I had to turn in my hipster-issued white belt when I did the deed — but I couldn't stand knowing that the same entry I'd just read on the last refresh would be marked as new again. Seriously, that was really fucking irritating. I was just marking the feed read and not bothering with it for the past month or so.

As my hero and internet mentor Merlin says, that right there sounds like a first world problem, doesn't it? Bitching about the number of mouse clicks I have to perform in a day. Pfft.

Preshrunk On Attack Of The Show

An embedded player or widget from the old site was left out of this archive.

I had no clue that this had happened, but one of my coworkers dropped me video of a Preshrunk mention on G4's Attack Of The Show last week. Wondering why I didn't happen to catch a referrer from them, I checked their blog and noticed that they dropped the wrong link into their show notes. Whatever. I'm just happy to get my hands on this and share it with y'all...

Elevates

This picture didn't survive the wash.Everything this shirt says is 100% true. Design does, in fact, elevate experience. Nobody wants to use an ugly cell phone, do they?

Now, this post could really derail and turn into a "I love Apple" rant if I'm not careful. I've been known to be a bit of a fanboy, after all. I guess I'll go ahead and spare you this time.

I know I'd be preaching a large section of the choir anyhow. I mean, I do tend to watch the stats here and I've got a pretty good idea of how many of y'all are checking us out off of deadly sexy OS X boxen. But those of you who are inclined to pay a bit more for your computing experience sure seem to groan about shirts over $17.00 being "too expensive". I get that tho. That shiny new MacBook and/or iPod made you pretty fucking broke. The last thing you need is somebody showing you a nice looking shirt that you can't afford.

As somebody who skirts the line between broke and not on a fairly routine basis, I totally understand where you're coming from. Then again, I get most of my shirts for free — so maybe I'm not quite on the same page as you. But you get what I was getting at, don't you?

Eh. I bet the cheap shits are the PC people anyhow...

Hummer

This picture didn't survive the wash.I could totally spout off all the arguments for why Hummers drivers are horrible people who eat their young, but FUH2 does a pretty good job of that. There's no need to reinvent the wheel, is there?

There are loads of these gaudy, gas guzzling behemoths littering the roadways in LA. And by both the previous paragraph and last statement, it should be pretty obvious that I loathe the shit out of them. But that's just the opinion of one hippie with a car that is somewhat close to fuel efficient.

Thanks to the gang at Fat American, I can now express my distaste in a more concise way than that disjointed rambling up above. Seriously, I'm sorry about that mess up there you guys. I should probably try to not cook up an entry while watching 30 Rock, right? You live and learn, I guess...

Web 2.0

This picture didn't survive the wash.I'm just going to come right out and say this up front — because I'm sure one of you lot will leave something in the comments if I don't — this shirt has a bit of printing on the back. And if that garners a "no sale" in your book, no skin off my back. I mean, I'm not the one selling the shirt, am I?

Normally I'm a pretty big snob about that sort of thing too, but I really like A List Apart, so I'm going to let this one slide. I've been letting a lot of stuff slide lately, haven't I? Does this mean that I'm beginning to get a bit soft in my old age? Am I going to start running retarded shirts from utterly mediocre CafePress shops now?

Fuck no. Not today. Not ever. Thank you kindly for your concern, tho.

All y'all in the geek circles will hopefully agree that this one up to the standards I've previously held myself to before. Superimposing Web 2.0 with snake oil imagery is a clever bit of commentary. Of course it might have to be explained to someone like your granny, but how many shirts do you honestly own that she doesn't get anyhow?

Don't get me wrong. I love AJAX as much as the next person — but I don't believe that it is this be-all and end-all answer for what the internet can be. It honestly seems like loads of folks are playing it off to be that. And after pawing over TechCrunch for an afternoon, I'm happy to see a shirt that flies directly in the face of that concept. Well done, ALA!

Odelay

This picture didn't survive the wash.Man, having Monday off for MLK Jr.'s Birthday sort of fucked up the rhythm I had going there. Guess I'll have to make a double post tomorrow to make up for it, won't I?

I'm pretty sure that this shirt has nothing to do with the Beck album other than sharing the gringo misspelling of Órale — but I dig on it. There's something about the mexican tattoo art style lettering that I'm into. I think it's something about the swoops and flourishes that I admire. At least that's what I'm going with as I'm not much for self-reflection this evening.

I must say tho, while I do like that style of lettering, I don't like it so much that I'd get my old lady's name etched into my arm with it. Nothing personal to Sarah or anything, I've just never really been one for putting other people's names on myself. I'm pretty sure she knows that tho...

On Eating The 100% Perfect Sandwich One Beautiful April Morning...

This picture didn't survive the wash.I'm pretty sure this is the longest title we've ever had on a post. I'm also pretty sure that we haven't given any love over to David and the gang over at Seibei in a good long while. And that's sad, because they honestly deserve it.

The truth is that I was sort of waiting on Morrissey Saved My Life before running another shirt from them — but this one is too crazy and weird and left field for me to ignore. Named after the Haruki Murakami story On Meeting the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning, the shirt is basically its own title in wonderfully bubbly kanji over a background of sandwiches. There's really no other way to describe it, is there?

Okay, so it's a bit of an odd duck as far as t-shirts go. I'm quite fond of odd ducks tho. Hopefully you are too...

Kern

This picture didn't survive the wash.Alright, it's track jacket time... Don't worry Andy, I'm not whaling my way into your territory or anything. I just thought this design was too damn clever to pass up. Feel free to bite it if you want... ;)

Now, I wouldn't think to call myself a design geek so much as I would a design admirer. Design geeks, for the most part, can actually crank out pretty looking things with a little bit of effort. Sure they might be whatever trend is the big thing at the time, but at least the things they make manage to look nice. And while I'm passingly familiar with grid layouts and typography, I don't think I could assemble the things that I know into something which people would want to look at or admire.

Still, I get what Veer's going for here. What's more, thinking about simply zipping up as a visual aide during the explanation of kerning makes me giggle a bit. I'll laugh at anything tho, so take that however you want to.
